With summer just around the corner, many families are thinking about their next camping trip. Camping is a great way to enjoy a vacation. It is inexpensive, you can enjoy fresh air, and it can take you away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Whether you are out and about or staying at the camp site, there are many types of camping games that will keep you and your fellow campers entertained. Here are a few suggestions.
Charades
A game of charades is a classic. You can compete in teams or as individuals. Basically, a person thinks of a word or phrase, then acts out what he has in mind. No verbal communication is allowed. This always brings a good laugh as the actor has to resort to ridiculous and funny gestures to try to convey this thoughts.
Water Balloon Pass
If it is a hot day, play a game of water balloon pass. It is like a game of “hot potato”, only the potato is a water balloon. Everyone sits in a circle. A person is designated to turn the music on and off at random.
When the music is turned on, the filled balloon is passed as quickly as possible from one person to the other without breaking it. When the music stops, the person with the water balloon loses and steps out. The game becomes highly intense because no one wants to hold the balloon, and no one wants the water balloon to break on him. With all the handling, the balloon often does break and gets the person soaked, adding to the fun.
Scavenger Hunt
Organize a scavenger hunt. This is a great camp game especially if the campers are kids. Make a list of things that are likely to be found in nature. To make the game challenging, you can put down very specific things, like a rock shaped like a heart, a leaf with three colors, etc. The campers go on a hike and looks for the items on the list. The person or team who finds all of the items first wins.
Clothes Pin Seven-Up
A fun group game is called “Clothes Pin Seven-Up”. Each person is given seven clothes pins. Each person writes his initials on each of his pins. The object is to pin a pin on another person, but without getting pinned yourself. Each person has to pin seven different people. The number of pins can be adjusted for large or small groups. The person who gets rid of his clothes pins first wins the game.
T-Shirt Relay
Another fun group game is a T-shirt relay. Everyone lines up in teams. Each team gets one extra-large t-shirt. The first person in each team puts on the t-shirt. He faces the next person on his team and holds both of his hands.
The other team members tries to slip the t-shirt off of the first person and onto the second person, without the two people losing grip on each other. When the second person has the t-shirt on, he turns and holds the hands of the third person. This continues until each team member wears the shirt once. The team who finishes first wins.
These are just a few examples of popular camping games. These will sure to add fun and laughter to any camp setting.
